The transformation of the building into a place integrated in the landscape began at the approach where we planned a processional garden path approach to the entry instead of the parking lot experience. New decking shaped like a giant leaf transitions from garden to building. Small openings were reconfigured into overscaled rustic portals. An unassuming craft vernacular style was applied and careful lighting kept the rustic elements highlighted while the main focus remained on the inspiring landscaping, wine and views over the valley. New large ceremonial steps on the primary axis were added to either side that make a procession out of the transition between garden and architecture.
